The Real World Copywriting Campus Review: A Member's View
The Real World's Strategic Marketing campus, formerly Copywriting, reviewed by a member since 2022: what it teaches, the hardest part, and who should pick it.

Direct answer
The Strategic Marketing campus, formerly called Copywriting, teaches persuasive writing and marketing inside The Real World. The official campus page groups the lessons into three parts: secrets of persuasion, exploiting AI, and mindsets and tactics. The person behind this site took the campus back when The Real World was Hustlers University. He says it taught him to write copy for landing pages, and above all to sell the benefit rather than just the features. He has since used it to write landing pages and ads for two businesses, and his confidence came after five or six landing pages that worked: in his words, "confidence from competence". The hardest part was carrying the same value into spoken conversations with clients. It suits people who are good with words and comfortable selling. Shy people, or people who prefer building systems, may be better suited to another campus.
Strategic Marketing is The Real World’s campus for persuasive writing, and it’s the campus many people still search for under its old name, Copywriting. The Real World is an online learning platform, formerly called Hustlers University, where one membership opens every campus. This review is based on the official campus page and on the experience of the person behind this site, who took the campus in the Hustlers University days and has used the skill ever since. What is the Strategic Marketing campus?
Copywriting is writing that persuades someone to take an action, such as buying, booking or signing up. The official campus page describes the job this way: “websites, advertisements, emails, tweets or text messages – if there are words involved – that is the job of a strategic marketer.”
The official page groups the lessons into three parts:
| Part | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Secrets of persuasion | How people make decisions, and how to write so they act |
| Exploiting AI | Using AI tools to speed up research and writing |
| Mindsets and tactics | Finding clients and working with businesses |
The Real World lists Strategic Marketing among the campuses that “sell a skill instead of a product”, so it needs no stock or starting capital. The campus page on this site, Strategic Marketing campus, has the official details.
What did the campus teach the person behind this site?
He took it to learn how to write copy and how to sell things with it. The lessons taught him to write copy for landing pages: how to sell an item, and in particular how to sell the benefit, not just the features. A feature is what a product has; a benefit is what it does for the buyer. Learning to lead with the benefit is the skill he credits most.
He has since used it across two businesses, writing landing pages and ads that converted.
How long before he felt confident?
After five or six successful landing pages. By then he could repeat the process for different products, and he had written ads that worked across more than one business. In his words: “I have confidence from competence.” The confidence came from doing it repeatedly, not from the lessons alone.
What was the hardest part?
Talking to people. Carrying the same value you put into written copy into a live conversation with a client can be harder than writing it, he says, and it “just takes more reps than normal.” Expect to practise pitching as much as writing.
Who should pick Strategic Marketing, and who shouldn’t?
It suits:
- people who are good at sales;
- people who are good with words, written and spoken;
- people who want a skill they can offer to businesses without needing stock.
It’s less suited to:
- people who are shy or timid, because selling your writing means talking to clients;
- people who prefer building systems, who may be happier in the AI Automation campus.
How does it compare with the other campuses?
| Campus | You sell | Starting capital (The Real World’s guidance) |
|---|---|---|
| Strategic Marketing | Your writing and marketing skills | None |
| AI Automation | AI systems you build for businesses | None, plus AI tool subscriptions |
| Ecommerce | Physical products through your own store | A small budget |
Every campus is included in the same membership. The full list of The Real World campuses covers the rest, and the guide to whether you need money to start covers extra costs.
When this doesn’t apply
- Writing alone isn’t enough. You also have to find clients and pitch to them.
- Your timeline will differ. Five or six landing pages is one member’s experience, not a typical result.
- Details change. Lessons inside the app can change; this reflects the official page as checked in September 2026.
- No guaranteed results. The Real World’s Terms of Use state that it does not guarantee any particular financial, business or commercial outcome.
