  3. Dan, Amazon FBA

Dan made a first Amazon FBA sale of $22 twelve days after joining: a case study

United States flagDan, 25United StatesAmazon FBA campusThe Real World’s own interview, 5 minutes. It loads only when you press play.

Dan, 25, had a 9 to 5 in corporate America paying “$70,000 a year”. In a student interview published on The Real World’s own website, Dan gives the dates: access to The Real World “on November 23rd, just before Thanksgiving”, the Amazon FBA campus opened “the Sunday following”, the term learned “on November 27th”, and “on December 5th I had made my first sale”, of $22. A month in, Dan says the monthly income was “double that of my previous 9 to 5”, while saying “I don’t want to disclose exact figures.”

Two things to know first. The figures: Dan gives no exact monthly number, only a comparison with the old salary, and The Real World’s caption adds figures Dan doesn’t say in the video (“$50,000 within 4 months”). Both are set out below. And the campus: The Real World’s caption and Dan both say Amazon FBA, but there is no Amazon FBA campus in the app today. The official courses page lists Amazon FBA in its Ecommerce campus description, and this page shows that campus as the nearest, not as Dan’s. Below: what Dan says, in Dan’s own words and step by step; what the app shows today; wins and reviews from other members; and who this path suits. The full transcript is under “What Dan said”. Everything here comes from the interview, The Real World’s own caption and app, or the sources listed at the end.

At a glance

  • Who

Dan. The Real World’s caption gives the age as 25 and shows a US flag; Dan doesn’t state an age, and speaks of “working in corporate America” (0:27).

  • Starting point

“My previous 9 to 5, my annual income was $70,000 a year” (0:21). “I went to uni. I got a uni degree and then took a nine to five job” (2:19).

  • How Dan found it

“when I started to hear about Hustlers University, which was then going to The Real World, I thought this is it” (2:41).

  • Campus

Amazon FBA, in the caption and in Dan’s words: “The Sunday following, I had opened up the Amazon FBA campus” (1:25). Dan credits two captains there, “Michael and George” (0:05).

  • Timeline

Access “on November 23rd” (1:18); the term learned “on November 27th”; first sale “on December 5th” (1:52). Dan says “this year in 2023” (0:38), so the dates are presumably late 2022. It was on The Real World’s home page by 8 June 2023.

  • Result (video)

A first sale of $22 (1:43). Then: “In the first month inside The Real World, my monthly income was double that of my previous 9 to 5” (0:27), with no exact figure: “I don’t want to disclose exact figures” (0:16).

  • Result (caption)

The Real World’s caption: “New revenue: $10k+/month”, and that Dan “quit” the 9 to 5 and “earned $50,000 within 4 months of joining”, with the freedom “to train for Ironman Triathlons and 100 mile Ultramarathons”.

$70,000 a year is about $5,800 a month, so “double” would be about $11,700 in the first month. Asked to confirm, Dan put it as making “more than” the old monthly pay “within my first month” (0:55). Dan doesn’t say whether that is revenue or profit. The caption’s $50,000 in four months, quitting the job and the triathlons aren’t in the video; Dan speaks one month in. The figures are Dan’s and The Real World’s own; this site hasn’t seen the accounts.

Transcribed on 26 October 2026 from the interview audio with Whisper speech recognition (run locally), then checked against a second full pass and a re-run of every part with two models: punctuation fixed, nothing added; “[unclear]” marks words the passes don’t agree on. Dan says “Hustler’s University” for Hustlers University, The Real World’s earlier name, written as Hustlers University here. “Since joining on December 5th” (0:12) is as spoken; Dan gives 23 November as the access date (1:18). Speaker labels are ours. The interviewer is from The Real World. The $49 mentioned was the price at the time; today it is $99 a month on the official checkout.

0:00 Dan: Since the start of my time in The Real World, just before December 5th, Michael and George have been a huge influence on me and on my success. They're two great captains inside the Amazon FBA campus since joining on December 5th. Well, I don't want to disclose exact figures. The financial successes have been great. My previous 9 to 5, my annual income was $70,000 a year, working in corporate America. In the first month inside The Real World, my monthly income was double that of my previous 9 to 5, and on track to do well over six figures this year in 2023. So things have been going absolutely great. It's just my first month as well.

0:49 Interviewer: Congratulations. So in one month, all of that is in one month, correct?

0:54 Dan: Correct. So my previous annual income on a monthly basis, I was able to make more than that within my first month of The Real World.

1:03 Interviewer: Awesome. And to clarify, this is through Amazon FBA, correct?

1:09 Dan: Yes, it is.

1:10 Interviewer: And how did you get into Amazon FBA in this case, out of all the other campuses you could have chosen?

1:18 Dan: Well, when I joined The Real World, I got access on November 23rd, just before Thanksgiving, a time when you're spending around family. The Sunday following, I had opened up the Amazon FBA campus, started watching the videos, getting to know the professors and the captains. And it wasn't but a few days later, after just hammering YouTube videos, staying behind the keyboard, just hours of relentless work, really. What it was, was I made my first sale of $22, and the rest was history after that. I didn't know what the word Amazon FBA meant at all, so it was a completely brand new word for me that I learned on November 27th, and then on December 5th I had made my first sale. That's how quickly things can go if you're driven and you're relentless at your work and you're inside The Real World and you're working hard and communicating and connecting with others.

2:09 Dan: I thought that things were lining up appropriately, and it was just a point of, you know, where can I go to learn from someone in the most efficient way possible, right? I don't know how to make money. I went to uni. I got a uni degree and then took a nine to five job. So you're making a few thousand dollars a month working for someone else, having someone else tell you what to do 24/7, and you can't, you know, do what you want. You're on a fixed income. So I thought, how can I start to make income strictly off of my own back? I've always worked for someone else to make money.

2:41 Dan: So when I started to hear about Hustlers University, which was then going to The Real World, I thought this is it. This is my opportunity. And for me, it's never been exactly about us making a certain dollar amount. It's just that freedom to be able to do what you want, right? Eat where you want, go where you want, drive what you want, live where you want. And The Real World to me was a no-brainer on the place to go to be able to obtain that financial freedom, and without a doubt, get your start.

3:12 Dan: So what The Real World is really powerful for is it takes people that are completely flat broke, or someone like me who's making a nine to five income, or someone in the middle, and it helps you start to make money on your own, which is really the big hump that most people have to get over, because once you can start to make that money on your own, scaling it is just a matter of how much you want it. And you're asking questions to verified experts in your field that are available at your fingertips, which is just a priceless tool that we have inside The Real World.

3:43 Dan: This community of over 200,000 plus members, if I've seen the latest stat correctly, is all inside The Real World at the tip of your fingers. So everyone inside of your industry that you may be studying or working towards, or multiple industries that you may be studying and working in, whether it is a complete beginner like myself one month ago, or verified millionaires inside that field, they are inside that community. And we're all building each other up, and it's all positivity, and it's really, really a great place where negativity and skepticism really isn't tolerated. And it's just a bunch of men and women just all joining together and all wanting to succeed. Everyone's on a one-track mind in there.

4:25 Dan: So the community has really done a lot for me. When you have a question, you just fire it off and someone's inside there asking. It's a global community as well, so 24 hours a day, The Real World is active, active in learning and active in success. And the community has been absolutely awesome, something I didn't expect going in. So it was really great to experience.

4:47 Interviewer: Is there any other advice you'd give to people just starting out? Or would you say you've covered most of it already?

4:53 Dan: Get inside The Real World and have a great time. You're going to make your $49 back inside the first month. It's been a really, really life-changing experience for me thus far.

What The Real World offers today

Dan was in the campus The Real World’s caption calls Amazon FBA, and Dan calls it “the Amazon FBA campus”. There is no campus by that name today: the “My Campuses” list in the owner’s account on 26 October 2026, after adding the campuses on offer, has twelve, and none is called Amazon FBA. The official courses page describes the Ecommerce campus as “Dropshipping, private label, Amazon FBA.”, but the Ecommerce courses on show in the app are about dropshipping and Shopify, and The Real World hasn’t said what became of the Amazon FBA campus. So this page shows Ecommerce as the nearest campus today, not as Dan’s.

How you get started

  1. Join and add campuses

One membership covers every campus: $99 a month or $996 a year on the official checkout. Inside the app you add campuses from the “My Campuses” list.

  2. Choose where to start

The official courses page groups Ecommerce with “a small budget and an interest in products”, and its Ecommerce description includes “Amazon FBA”. Dan opened the campus “the Sunday following” access (1:25).

  3. Watch the lessons, then act

Dan: “started watching the videos, getting to know the professors and the captains” (1:27), then “just hours of relentless work” before the first sale.

  4. Ask the captains

Dan credits two captains, “Michael and George” (0:05), and “asking questions to verified experts in your field” (3:33).

What support is like

  • Captains and the community. Dan: “When you have a question, you just fire it off” (4:27), and “24 hours a day, The Real World is active” (4:33). That is Dan’s account. The Real World publishes no response-time promise.
  • Professors and captains. Dan names two captains, Michael and George, and speaks of “verified experts in your field”, without naming the professor.
  • No guarantee. The Real World’s Terms of Use say it doesn’t guarantee any financial outcome. Every campus starts from the fundamentals and assumes no prior knowledge.

Is this path for you?

It may suit you if

  • You can put in long hours early on. Dan describes “just hours of relentless work” before the first sale.
  • You have a small budget to start. The Real World groups Ecommerce, whose description includes Amazon FBA, with “a small budget and an interest in products”.
  • You will ask questions. Dan credits two captains and the community more than anything else.

It may not suit you if

  • You are looking for an Amazon FBA campus. There is none in the app’s campus list today; the nearest is Ecommerce.
  • You read “double” the old salary as profit. Dan gives no figure and doesn’t say whether it is revenue or profit.
  • You have no budget at all. For no budget, The Real World points to Client Acquisition, Strategic Marketing or AI Automation instead.
  • You need a guaranteed return. The Real World’s Terms of Use say it doesn’t guarantee any financial outcome, and Dan’s figures are Dan’s own.

Dan’s account is one student’s, given a month in, in an interview The Real World chose to publish. For the nearest campus today, see the Ecommerce campus page and the Ecommerce campus review.
