Can You Pause Your Real World Membership?

There is no pause option in The Real World's official policy or support page. What to do instead: cancel before renewal, keep access to the end of the period, rejoin later.

Direct answer

No. The Real World doesn't offer a pause. Its official Subscription, Renewal and Cancellation Policy lists four plans (Monthly, Annual Pay Monthly, Annual Pay in Advance and Annual Plus) and describes renewing and cancelling, but never pausing, and the official support page doesn't mention a pause either (both checked October 30, 2026). The closest thing to a pause is to cancel before your next renewal date: the policy says "Access continues until the end of your current paid Subscription period", and after that no more payments are taken. You can rejoin later at whatever the price is then; the Conquer plan was $99 a month on the official checkout. Two exceptions: on Annual Pay Monthly you have signed up to a 12-month commitment, and if you paid through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that store's billing rules apply. This site is independent and isn't run by The Real World.

People ask this when money is tight for a month, when exams or a new job are coming, or when they want a break without starting again from nothing. The short answer is that there’s no pause button in The Real World’s official rules, but cancelling works much like one, as long as you know what it does and doesn’t keep. Everything below comes from The Real World’s official Subscription, Renewal and Cancellation Policy and support page, both read on October 30, 2026. For the full cancelling steps and refund rules, see how to cancel The Real World.

Does The Real World have a pause option?

Not in its published rules. The policy names four subscription types, “Monthly Subscription”, “Annual Pay Monthly Subscription”, “Annual Pay in Advance Subscription” and “Annual Plus Subscription”, and for each one it describes how it renews and how it is cancelled (policy). The word “pause” doesn’t appear, and nor does “freeze” or “hold”. The support page’s frequently asked questions cover logging in, devices, cancelling, renewal and refunds, and don’t mention pausing either. (PRIMARY: both pages read in full on October 30, 2026.)

What this page can’t tell you is what the membership portal shows on your own account on the day you look. If you see a pause option there, it’s newer than this page. Go by what your account shows.

What can you do instead of pausing?

Cancel before your next renewal, then rejoin when you’re ready. Here’s what the policy says that does:

What you want What the official policy says
Keep access for the time you’ve paid for “Access continues until the end of your current paid Subscription period.”
Stop the next payment “To avoid your next Subscription charge, cancel before your next scheduled renewal payment is processed.”
Get money back for the unused part Monthly: “No refunds or credits are provided for unused portions after the billing period has commenced, except where required by applicable law.”
Come back later Nothing in the policy stops you rejoining. You pay the price on the checkout on that day.

Quotes from the official Subscription, Renewal and Cancellation Policy, checked October 30, 2026.

So the practical “pause” is:

  1. Find your renewal date. On a monthly plan you probably won’t get a reminder: the policy says “Monthly Subscriptions generally renew without reminder” (policy).
  2. Cancel in your account settings before that date. The support page calls it “your account settings (the membership portal)”.
  3. Keep using it until the paid period runs out. The support page says cancelling “does not end your current access immediately” (support page).
  4. Rejoin on the official checkout when you want to come back.

Don’t delete your account as a way of stopping payments. The policy says “Deleting your account does not automatically cancel your Subscription.” That’s covered in does deleting your Real World account stop payments.

Does a break cost you anything?

Possibly, in two ways.

The price can be different when you return. The policy says The Real World may change prices “from time to time” and that “Price changes apply only to future Subscription periods” (policy). A new membership after a break is a future period. The Conquer plan was $99 a month or $996 a year on the official checkout on October 19, 2026. The old Hustlers University price was $49.99 a month, so prices have gone up before. See the price guide for the current plans.

Your progress may or may not be waiting. No official page promises to keep your lessons, ranks or chat history after you leave, and the privacy policy reserves the right to delete the data of people who are no longer active users. The details are in what happens to your progress if you rejoin The Real World.

What if you’re on an annual plan?

The annual plans work differently, and none of them has a pause either.

  • Annual Pay in Advance and Annual Plus. You’ve paid up front. The policy says that because they are discounted “in exchange for a twelve-month commitment”, “no refunds or credits are provided for unused portions after commencement, except where required by applicable law.” Cancelling stops the renewal at the end of the term; it doesn’t stop the clock during it.
  • Annual Pay Monthly. The policy calls it “a 12-month commitment that is charged monthly” (policy). It also says it “can be cancelled at any time” and that “no future scheduled payments will be taken”. Read your own plan’s terms before you cancel, because the wording mixes a commitment with a right to cancel.

For annual plans, the policy says The Real World aims to send a renewal reminder about 14 to 30 days before renewal, as a courtesy.

What has the member behind this site seen?

The person behind this site joined Hustlers University in about April 2022 and has kept the same membership ever since, through the move to The Real World. He has never paused or cancelled, so he has no first-hand account of a break to offer, and this page doesn’t invent one. (OWNER)

When this doesn’t apply

  • You paid through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The policy says those purchases are “subject to the relevant app store’s billing and refund policies”. Manage the subscription in the store, which may have options of its own.
  • Your country’s law gives you more. The policy says mandatory consumer rights in your place of residence apply where they differ from the policy, and it names Germany, Israel, South Africa, Türkiye and certain US states. This page isn’t legal advice.
  • Your account was suspended. A suspension for a failed payment or a breach of the terms isn’t a pause, and the policy says a suspension for breach “does not entitle you to a refund except where required by applicable law.”
  • The policy changes. Everything here was checked on October 30, 2026. Read the current policy before you rely on it.

What to do next

If you want a break, note your renewal date and cancel before it in your account settings; the steps are in how to cancel The Real World. If you’re stepping back because your first campus wasn’t a fit, which Real World campus to start with shows how students moved between campuses on one membership instead. When you’re ready to come back, current prices are on the plan page.

Related questions

Can I pause my Real World membership?

No pause option appears in the official Subscription, Renewal and Cancellation Policy or on the official support page (checked October 30, 2026). The policy covers renewing and cancelling only. To stop paying for a while, cancel before your renewal date and rejoin later.

If I cancel, do I lose access straight away?

No. The official policy says "Access continues until the end of your current paid Subscription period." Cancelling stops the next renewal; it doesn't cut off the time you have already paid for.

Can I freeze an annual Real World plan?

The policy describes no freeze for any plan. Annual Pay in Advance and Annual Plus are paid up front with no refunds for unused time, except where the law requires. Annual Pay Monthly is described as a 12-month commitment charged monthly; the policy says it can be cancelled at any time and no future scheduled payments are then taken.

Will I pay the same price when I come back?

Not necessarily. The policy says The Real World may change prices from time to time and that "Price changes apply only to future Subscription periods." A new membership after you cancel is a future period, so you pay the price shown on the checkout on the day you rejoin.

Can I ask support for a pause anyway?

You can ask. The policy tells members with questions about renewal or cancellation to contact customer support before the next renewal date. Nothing on the official pages says a pause will be granted, so don't count on one.
